GREENVILLE – The Greenville Daily Advocate’s annual Darke County Fair Magazine Cover Photo Contest Winner was Janelle Brinksneader, of Arcanum.

Her son Logan, showing his steer “Gus” at the Great Darke County Fair, is featured on the cover of this year’s Special 10th Anniversary Fair Magazine that is distributed to thousands of fairgoers.

To Brinksneader, her son’s photo is what the fair is all about.

“That is what our family does,” Brinksneader said. “We show cattle and pigs. Between three boys, we show five pigs and three steers at the fair. The fair is all about the 4-H competition and the kids just having a lot of fun. The smile on his face just said it all for us. We typically camp, and the kids have a lot of friends in the barns. Some of them work hard all year with their projects. It’s their chance to showcase what they have been working at. This is what we enjoy as a family, and my kids just love showing their animals.

The Voter’s Choice award went to Denise Holesapple, of New Madison, for a photo of Raegan Hunt riding a carousal. Honorable Mention went to Jenni Wiegand of Lewisburg, for a photo of Lucy and Lucas. According to Greenville Daily Advocate Advertising Manager Christie Randall, some of the criteria the judges look for are good quality and a good representation of the fair.

“The winning photo was of a boy showing his animal, with a fair judge,” Randall said. “That showed a really good representation of the Darke County Fair.”

The Directors of the Great Darke County Fair recognized the magazine’s success over the past decade and unanimously voted it become the Official Fair Magazine for fairgoers this year.

“The directors of the Darke County Agricultural Society are proud to announce that The Daily Advocate magazine, Darke County Fair Magazine has been chosen to be the official magazine of The Great Darke County Fair. This honor is in recognition of their hard work and effort to showcase our great fair and to provide coverage for its events,” said the directors. “Their commitment to our event shows the passion they have for reporting on the youth of Darke County which we believe are some of the finest anywhere.”

Sponsors of the prizes include: Greenville National Bank, $100 cash prize for the Judges Choice; Marcos Pizza, free pizza for a year certificates; Second National Bank and Furniture Express, co-sponsors of the Voters Choice $75 cash prize; and Honorable mention was sponsored by Flag Lumber, a $50 cash prize.

The magazine has won Ohio’s Associated Press Specialty Publication of the Year award and the Second Street Media Specialty Publication of the Year award.
