GREENVILLE — A Greenville man arrested on rape charges was arraigned Tuesday in Darke County Common Pleas Court.

Harley G. Campbell, 22, was indicted by a grand jury on four felony counts: two counts of rape of a person under the age of 13 (both first-degree felonies), gross sexual imposition of a person under the age of 13 (a third-degree felony) and illegal use of a minor in nudity oriented material (a fourth-degree felony).

Campbell appeared in court via video teleconference from the Darke County Jail where he is currently incarcerated.

If convicted on all charges, Campbell was informed he could face up to 28.5 years in prison and fines of up to $55,000. Further, he would be subject to being registered as a sex offender upon his release.

Judge Jonathan P. Hein entered a “not guilty” plea on Campbell’s behalf. He then appointed defense attorney Randall Breaden to represent Campbell.

Assistant Prosecutor James Bennett represented the state, and citing the seriousness of the allegations against Campbell and noting that when apprehended by Greenville Police officers, Campbell was in possession of methamphetamine, asked the court to impose a bond of $50,000. Judge Hein instead ordered Campbell held on a bond of $100,000.

Campbell’s next court appearance is a pre-trial conference scheduled for November 27.
