Two arrested in B&E spree

SENECA COUNTY — Two Lima men have been indicted in connection with a string of 10 break-ins over just three months throughout the region that included sites in Versailles and Bradford.

Robert E. Tackett, 77, and Roger A. Hemry, 51, both of Lima, were indicted by a Seneca County grand jury on 13 counts each. Each man was charged with 10 counts of breaking and entering, a felony of the fifth degree; and one count each of possessing criminal tools, fifth-degree felony, safecracking, fourth-degree felony, and engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity, second-degree felony.

The men were charged as suspects in the May 31 break-in at the Versailles Eagles Lodge, in which $1,400 in liquor was stolen, along with nine others in less than three months this year, including one in Bradford.

The breaking-and-entering charges are for the following incidents, in order: May 29, Van Wert County, Amvets in Middle Point; May 31, Darke County, Eagles in Versailles; June 23, Miami County, Hershey Bar in Bradford; July 15, Putnam County, VFW in Ottoville; July 15, Allen County, American Legion in Spencerville; July 20, Putnam County, American Legion in Continental; July 29, Hancock County, VFW in Findlay; July 30, Van Wert County, American Legion in Willshire; Aug. 10, Ottawa County, American Legion in Elmore; and Aug. 16, Seneca County, Moose Lodge in New Riegel.

The men were initially brought before Tiffin Fostoria Municipal Court, and following the indictment, the case is transferred to Seneca County Common Pleas Court with Judge Michael P. Kelbley presiding.

Each of the breaking and entering charges carries a maximum of 12 months in prison and fines up to $2,500. Possession of criminal tools carries a maximum of 12 months and $2,500. The maximum for safecracking is 18 months and $5,000. Engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity carries a maximum of eight years in prison and $15,000 in fines.
