Power outage cancels Greenville High School classes

GREENVILLE — Greenville High School students and staff got an extended Labor Day holiday Tuesday as classes at the high school were canceled due to a power outage.

Greenville’s K-8 building on North Ohio Street was not affected by the outage and was open.

Greenville City Schools Superintendent Doug Fries said, to his knowledge, the power outage only affected the high school building on Greenwave Way and not neighboring residences. He said he hoped classes at the high school would be able to resume Wednesday.

“I’m not sure of the cause,” he said. “Dayton Power & Light is working on it now at high school. We are hopeful it will be done for tomorrow.”

Tuesday evening junior varsity and varsity volleyball matches between Greenville and Sidney were canceled due to the outage. A makeup date will be announced.

Other regional schools, such as Sidney and Tipp City, among others, announced two-hour early dismissals Tuesday, due to high temperatures and humidity.
