UPDATED: Man critically injured in head-on accident

ARCANUM – Multiple fire and rescue personnel responded to the scene of a head-on accident Wednesday on State Route 49 near Kilbourn Road.

On Oct. 7, at approximately 12:04 p.m. Darke County deputies along with Arcanum Rescue, Greenville Rescue, Arcanum Fire, Pitsburg Fire, Phillipsburg Fire and CareFlight responded to the 3700 block of State Route 49 in reference to the accident.

The preliminary investigation revealed a gold 2002 Chevrolet Impala driven by Joshua E. Zennie, 19, Dayton, Ohio was traveling northbound on State Route 49 crossed the centerline entering into the southbound lane of travel. Zennie’s vehicle was struck head on by a white 2015 Freightliner, driven by William Moore, 56 of Muskegon, Michigan.

Zennie was extricated from the vehicle by rescue personnel and airlifted to Miami Valley Hospital where he remains in critical condition. Moore was treated and released at the scene.

State Route 49 was shut down for several hours for Darke County Sheriff’s Office Accident Reconstruction team to investigate the crash.

This accident remains under investigation by the Darke County Sheriff’s Office.
