Silo explosion reported at Cardinal Ethanol plant in Union City, Indiana

UNION CITY, Ind. – A silo explosion has been reported at the Cardinal Ethanol plant outside of Union City, Indiana.

The explosion, taking place at 1554 North County Road 600 East, was reported at approximately 11:50 a.m. Tuesday and is known to be the same silo in which the company has experienced ongoing issues. According to authorities, the silo has been known to be the center of attention for at least two fires in recent weeks.

There have been no reports of injuries related to the incident, and it is thought that any fire involved was contained to the interior of the one silo.

Structural damage to the silo could be observed from the roadway as light smoke was visible coming from the top.

The incident will remain under investigation by the Union City Ohio Fire Department, who is responsible for the response and coverage of the plant.
