Fire reported on North Star livestock farm

NORTH STAR – A livestock farm narrowly escaped disaster Wednesday when a semi tractor and trailer caught fire while sitting in a large open barn.

Shortly after 4 p.m., emergency personnel from North Star Fire, Burkettsville Fire, Osgood Fire and Rossburg Fire departments along with Ansonia Rescue and a unit from the Ohio State Highway Patrol responded to the 6000 block of State Route 705 just north of North Star in regards to a vehicle fire in a barn. Arriving units reported heavy smoke showing from a barn located on a livestock farm behind the property located at 6183 State Route 705 .

According to authorities on the scene, a semi tractor and livestock trailer was parked in a large multi bay open face barn when the vehicle erupted in flames. The fire was able to be contained mostly to the semi tractor while only minor damage was reported to the interior of the exposed structure.

The cause and nature of the fire is unknown at this time. The incident will remain under investigation by the North Star Fire Department.
