UNION CITY, Ohio — Most of the action planned for the regular meeting of the Union City Village Council had to be deferred Monday evening because two members were absent.

The only ordinances and resolutions on the agenda for consideration were listed for emergency passage, which would require the approval of five members of council – only four were present. Council members Duane Pouder and Brad Horsley were excused. Council completed the remainder of its agenda and recessed until Nov. 9 at 5:30 p.m.

Emergency items on the agenda were a resolution to amend revenue and appropriations, an ordinance to lease farm land to JJ Sargent Farms and an ordinance to contract with Best Way of Indiana for solid waste service.

Council did approve continuing with AEP for electrical service during Monday’s meeting.

The fire/rescue applications for Brian Brown and Ethan Wasson were approved.

Council also approved purchase orders for Union City Fire and EMS for breathing apparatus testing and new duty shirts. A purchase order also was approved for installation of backflow control devices as required by the EPA.

Main Source Bank was recognized as the Business of the Month.

Residents were advised that limited services would be available in the village office on Nov. 5 because regular staff will be in training that day. The office will be open regular hours, but services will be limited. The village office will be closed Veterans Day, Nov. 11, and Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 26.

Residents also were reminded that the CIC and park advisory board are still in need of members. Any citizens interested in participating should contact the mayor.
