Greenville man dies in afternoon accident

GREENVILLE – A Greenville man died at the scene of an accident Monday afternoon after he pulled from a stop sign into the path of oncoming traffic.

On Monday, Dec. 07 at approximately 3:08 p.m. Darke County Deputies, Greenville Township Fire and Greenville Township Rescue were dispatched to the intersection of U.S. Route 127 and Kruckeberg Road in reference to the fatal accident.

The preliminary investigation revealed a 2001 Chevrolet Tracker driven by John J. Kitten, 87, of Greenville was traveling east on Kruckeberg Road. The second vehicle was a 2002 Chevrolet truck driven by Richard A. Morgan Jr., 34, Union City, Ohio and passenger Kyle D. Frame, 28, of Greenville was traveling south on U.S. Route 127.

Kitten pulled from the stop sign into the path of Morgan’s truck. Morgan’s truck hit Kitten’s Tracker in the driver’s side pushing it into a traffic sign and post.

Kitten was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. Richard A. Morgan and Kyle D. Frame were treated and released at the scene of the accident.

Darke County Sheriff’s Office Reconstruction Team and the Darke County Coroner’s Investigator were also called to the scene for investigation.

The accident remains under investigation.
