GREENVILLE — Greenville Mayor Steve Willman signed a proclamation on Friday, April 2 dedicating the week of April 5 through 9 as “We are the Majority Week,” in Greenville. The proclamation encourages all citizens to join together in learning more about “the importance of living a positive, healthy lifestyle for a vibrant, safe, and secure community.”

A number of students from the Greenville branch of “We are the Majority” were in attendance for the signing. Students of all ages were able to meet the mayor and share their ideas for how they are working to influence their peers to stay drug, tobacco, and alcohol free.

The group name, as recognized within the proclamation, comes from the common misconception that a majority of teenagers and young adults use drugs or alcohol. However, research has continuously shown that a majority of young people are making healthy choices and adequately thinking about their future when making decisions.

Greenville Recovery & Wellness, the contract organization, works to support good decisions among young people and have teamed up with the Coalition for a Healthy Darke County to streamline efforts concerning addiction, and support local youth who are speaking out against drug and alcohol abuse.

The proclamation recognizes the group’s efforts to promote public understanding and awareness surrounding the fact that a majority of teens are not using illegal drugs or alcohol.
