GREENVILLE — Last weekend, while kicking COVID to the curb, summer sun and fun returned to the city as the Radiant Lighthouse hosted a community-wide Fun Fest and Main Street Greenville hosted its June First Friday.
Radiant Lighthouse’s Radiant H.O.P.E. Ministries offered families a chance to sit back, relax and enjoy a carnival atmosphere. While Chicketti Family Amusements provided rides and games, Radiant H.O.P.E. provided fellowship and fun — including a watermelon spitting contest, music and a concert featuring Radiant Lighthouse Church Worship team, Community to Faith, and Ten Talents — along with a outdoor craft show. “Fair food” favorites like funnel cakes, corn dogs, lemon shake-ups and the Kona Ice Truck were also available. Throughout the three-day event, which ran Friday through Sunday evening, attendees were able to enjoy the return of summer with beautiful sunny weather and sizzling temperatures.
“This is just the beginning of a great summer season,” said Wes Lynch, Senior Pastor of the Radiant Lighthouse. “Everyone is invited to come out and play volleyball on Monday evenings. We will be handing out water at the Versailles Poultry Days this coming weekend, and we’re planning a ‘block party’ to celebrate the new Splash Pad at South Park (located at 871 Gray).”
The next Radiant Lighthouse summer event is its “Camp Breakaway,” happening June 25 and 26. Teens, in Grade 7 through 12, are invited to come enjoy fellowship, fun, games, pizza, bonfire and more, while listening to great music and guest speakers. In addition, Radiant H.O.P.E. (which stands for “Helping Out People Everywhere”) will host another trip to feed the homeless in Indy Sat., June 12, leaving at 9:30 a.m. from Radiant Lighthouse Campus. Radiant H.O.P.E. continues to support the community through filling the many Blessing Boxes, which can be spotted throughout Darke County. Radiant H.O.P.E, along with the members of Radiant Lighthouse, will also host a back to school event on August 14, with details coming soon. Main Street Greenville, which hosted its June First Friday event, invited everyone in the community to come to the courthouse and talk to the animals. The Idle Hour Ranch and Animal Ministry, located at 4845 Fenner Road in Troy, provided eventgoers the opportunity to enjoy the weather and shop downtown with the whole family. Volunteers from the GNB Banking Center provided free hot dogs at the corner of Fourth and Broadway to all, both young and old.
The July First Friday event will be a “Heat Wave,” scheduled July 3, from 6 to 9 p.m. Other Main Street Greenville events include the Annie Oakley Sidewalk Sales (July 23 through 25), and the Artisan Stroll (August 7, from 6 to 9 p.m.) Also, Main Street Greenville hosts the Downtown Greenville Farmer’s Market each Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., in front of the Courthouse, through October 10.
First Friday events aim to bring people downtown during evening hours to enjoy activities, demonstrations, food and music in a beautiful historic setting. The monthly event is presented by Main Street Greenville — a non-profit organization committed to stimulating and supporting revitalization efforts, historic preservation and economic growth in historic Downtown Greenville.
