United Way supports after school program

GREENVILLE – The Darke County United Way recently supported the Empowering Darke County Youth’s After School Program with a Community Fund Grant to supplement its volunteer base with experienced licensed tutors.

“Volunteers are the backbone of this program,” said Bob Robinson, volunteer coordinator and Empowering Board member. “We would never have gotten this far in this short a period of time without them. Being able to bring in experienced tutors on a regular basis will help provide the structure and consistency needed to enhance and grow the program. This grant provides a huge step toward achieving that goal.”

Empowering Darke County Youth President Eric Fee and the rest of the board expressed their gratitude to The Darke County United Way for its support.

“We are deeply indebted to Christy Baker, executive director, Matt Jordan, 2016-17 campaign chair and the board of directors for United Way’s support of our program,” Fee said. “This is the ‘shot in the arm’ we needed to provide the next step in service to our kids, one that they both need and deserve.”

Empowering Darke County Youth’s After School Program meets daily on the Edison State Darke County Campus. It currently serves 58 students, grades K-6.
