Nick and Megan Kessler welcomed another boy on Feb. 25, 2019. Donovan “Van” James Kessler was born at 8:49 a.m. at Trident Medical Center in Charleston, South Carolina, weighing 8 pounds 10 ounces and measured 21 inches long. Big brother Cy will be 3 years old in May. Grandparents are Dave and Chris Kessler and Jim and Jane Urlage, all of Arcanum. Great-grandparents are Gary Glaspie, Rosemary (Kessler) and Jim Stikleather of Arcanum, and Marge Urlage of Florida. Van was named after his great-grandpa Donovan Kessler and great-grandpa Donovan Moyer.

Our great-nephew Zane Rhodehamel, who is battling leukemia, was surprised when Ironman and Batman showed up at his house for a visit! When he opened the door he found Ironman and Batman standing right outside! He welcomed them into the house and had lots to share with one of his favorite superheroes. They talked about how to defend the city and how to beat the villains. He pulled his shirt up and showed him his port. What a wonderful surprise; he’ll be talking about this for days. Thanks to everyone from Anthony Wayne for the wonderful surprise! Thanks to the community for all your support and prayers for our little guy!

Meanwhile down in San Angelo, Texas, Aiden Snyder has been doing well, trying to eat again and take his meds, so it was decided that he could have his NG tube removed. Aiden decided he could do it himself and pulled it right out when it was time. He also has been disconnected from his IV pole and only needs to be hooked up a couple times a day for IV meds. That means most of his day he gets to roam free! The doctors are also flirting with a discharge date but we have to see how things go over the next few days before we get anything firm. It’s been over a month out since transplant day; it has gone fast and slow at the same time, reports his mother. Aiden’s ANC continues to rise and is at 2205. That’s the level of an average person. But even though it appears high, he is still at a very high risk for infection. His new immune system is still at the level of an infant so we still need to take a lot of precautions. The family thanks you for your prayers and your thoughts.

The Arcanum Alumni Advisory Committee is looking for new members. They will hold their next meeting on March 12 at 6:30 p.m. at Faith United Methodist Church. If you would like to volunteer, please come to the next meeting. Members of the committee are also looking for classmates from the class of 1970 and 1995 to help plan next year’s event.
