Faith United Methodist Church and FHC Fellowship are hosting an Easter Egg Hunt for children of the Arcanum Community up through the fourth grade. The hunt will be in Ivester Park on Saturday at 2 p.m. They plan to hold the hunt “rain or shine” (assuming no downpours or snow). Children should bring an Easter basket to collect their eggs in. The eggs will have individually wrapped pieces of candy in them. There will also be a limited number of special prize eggs. Refreshments will be provided after the egg hunt. If you have questions, you may contact Don Taylor at 692-5765 or the church office at 692-8934 (office hours are 9 a.m. to noon).

“Everyone here at the library would like to thank all of our supporters who voted on the levy. It means the world to us!” stated the Arcanum Library staff this past week. “The Peanuts Movie” will be shown on Saturday at 11 a.m. Popcorn will be served; come join the fun! On Tuesday, the Storytime will be a combined session at 10:30 a.m. for a spring party and egg hunt. The Storytime on March 29 will also be a combined session, beginning at 10 a.m. The American Red Cross will be here to discuss safety with the children and present Stop, Drop, and Roll activities.

Older kids can also enjoy time at the library. On Tuesdays, those in grades 1-4 can come over to the library after school for the popular AfterWords program. Gather with friends for games, a snack, and more from 3:45 to 4:45 p.m. March 22 will include an egg hunt! On March 29, the American Red Cross will be here to present their “Pillowcase Program.” This program is designed to help kids know what to do in the case of a health emergency, home emergency, or natural disaster. Free Disney character pillowcases will be handed out! If you have any questions, feel free to give the library a call at 937-692-8484. Congratulations to Mora Menzie, Arcanum Elementary third-grader as she amazed the crowd at OHSAA Division III State Girls Basketball singing the National Anthem!

Arcanum’s sixth-grader, Meghan McCans had the opportunity to interview UD Flyers’ Scoochie Smith for a school project. Meghan’s grandfather, Gary McCans, has worked at the famous basketball facility, UD Arena, since it opened in 1969. He’s seen hundreds of players and nearly 1,000 Flyer games. Don May, Ryan Perryman and Keith Waleskowski are among his favorite players; he was able to make the introduction of Meghan to Scoochie and set up the interview; congratulations Meghan on getting a 100 percent on your project!!

The week leading up to Easter is a time of preparation for many in our community; many special services and activities are held at our area churches. Feel free to contact any of our local churches or parishes for service information; I am sure you are welcome to join any one of them.

“Easter spells out beauty, the rare beauty of new life.” ~S.D. Gordon

“ ‘Twas Easter-Sunday. The full-blossomed trees gilled all the air with fragrance and with joy. ~Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
