Wow! Union City is beginning to Rock! Take a look at what is happening.
Union City chapter of “Brianna’s Hope:” Monday evening, a group of approximately 100 people gathered at the cafeteria of the Union City Junior Senior High School to kick off opening the Union City Chapter of a Better Life, of Brianna’s Hope. This will be the fifth chapter formed spearheaded by Kevin Lawrence and Lisa LeMaster Fennig. This chapter will meet weekly at Wesley United Methodist Church each Friday evening at 6:30. The first meeting will be Monday. This is intended to help educate the public about the rising heroin epidemic. Sister chapters were in attendance to kick-off the newly formed Union City Chapter. Union City is a finalist. Six cities and towns have been named finalists for this year’s Stellar Communities program. The statewide initiative involves funding and resources for projects designed to improve quality of life in smaller Hoosier communities.
The state says Stellar Communities helps with “transformative” efforts to plan, leverage existing assets, foster regional investments and stimulate long-term growth. It is a collaboration financially supported by the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority, Office of Community and Rural Affairs and Indiana Department of Transportation through state and federal sources. The state says a total of 11 agencies will provide technical skills and expertise for the program.
Lieutenant Governor Eric Holcomb is set to visit each finalist in the coming months and says “Cities and towns across Indiana continue to benefit from a strong business climate that makes them attractive places to live, work, and play, and the Stellar Communities Designation Program remains an important catalyst fostering local economic growth.”
The finalists are broken down based on size. Division 1 communities have populations between 6,000 and 50,000 and Division 2 finalists have 5,999 or fewer residents. The 2016 finalists are:

Ten communities applied for the program. Finalists will receive a planning grant to launch or bolster strategic plans, projects and potential funding partnerships. One winner from each division will be announced in the summer.
The Union City Arts Festival is pleased to announce that Grammy-nominated recording artist Eddie Money will be headlining the opening of the 2016 Union City Arts Festival on Sept. 9. Eddie Money has enjoyed over four decades of success in the music industry and has recorded numerous top 25 hits in the ’70s, ’80s and ’90s. Hits that rocked the charts and venues throughout the country such as “Shakin’,” “I Wanna Go Back,” “Think I’m in Love,” Grammy nominated “Take Me Home Tonight” and perhaps his greatest hit, “Two Tickets to Paradise” are just a few of the songs you will hear Friday night to kick off another successful Union City Arts Festival.

Union City native Chris Hawkey will be returning and Password Reset featuring Union City native Rafaela Farias (Roxie Rox) co-headlining.
The festival will end on Sept, 11 with several Christian bands playing throughout the day on the main stage featuring the popular Christian group, Attaboy. We are also excited to feature “The Jesus Painter,” one of the nation’s most popular faith artists who tell a biblical story while painting amazing art at the same time.
Many other local and regional acts will be performing as well.
