Hectic weekend approaching

Sweet & Sassy: Hectic weekend approaching

By Linda Moody - Sweet & Sassy

Well, a big weekend is coming up.

Myself and my much older classmates will be celebrating our 50th class reunion.

Gail McKnight once again will be hosting our own personal gathering at his place on Friday night of Memorial Day weekend. The next night is the 138th annual Ansonia High school Alumni banquet and dance for those who want to attend. Then, graduation is on Sunday.

I’m excited to see everybody but hope my body holds out for all of this activity.

We had 78 graduates in our class, and I’m hoping the majority of them will be there. It’s a fun time, especially when we start talking about the “old days.”

It’s been said that ours was the biggest graduating class for 10 years when my sister Brenda’s class came along. They had a few more and they will be celebrating their 40th this year.

Most of my classmates attended school at Ansonia the whole 12 years. We graduated on May 28, 1966, if my memory serves me.

Classmates, I’m sure, gathered every five years after that, but I could be mistaken, since I’ve slept since then.

The only regret I have is that 16 of our classmates are gone and won’t be able to enjoy this reunion. No longer with us are Jerome Rosenbeck and Anita Whittington, who died in car accidents; Gerald Subler, who died in Vietnam; Jim Lewis, Pauline Borger, Nick Cox, Keith Cottrell, Dan Brewer, Luis Macias, Edwin Lambert, Gary Gibson, Ron Thompson, Pat Nunley, Linda Doyle, Steve Shaw and Jay Morrow, all from health-related issues. Until this year, some of us did not know that Jay had passed. His wife told Gail that he died in 2014.

However, it was noted that some students who went to school with us but did not graduate could possibly be at the reunion on Friday night. That, too, will be lots of fun.

Can’t wait.
