The Ohio Association of Garden Clubs held its 86th annual convention at the Deer Creek State Park near Mount Sterling with the theme “Garden Art and More.”
The highlight of the convention was the presentation for two awards for Ladybug Garden Club members, Tiffany Stebbins and Angela Beumer.
Tiffany was recognized as Regional Outstanding Garden Club member. To win this award, Tiffany has given programs, demonstrations, workshops, exhibits at flower shows, public beautification work and junior garden club assistance. She has attended Exhibitor and judge’s school, held offices in the Ladybug Garden Club and the Darke County Association of Garden Clubs. Tiffany is a very talented floral arranger having won numerous awards at the Darke County Fair flower shows such as Best of Show, Most Creative, Artistic Excellence and Best Interpretation.
Angela Beumer received the Regional Outstanding Amateur Gardener for Region 3 (Darke, Preble and Montgomery counties). Angela has a very inviting garden that complements their home and land. The garden was judged for color and continuous bloom, different varieties of perennials, annuals, shrub, trees, bulbs along with a vegetable garden, huge lake area, water garden, house plants and container gardening. Angela recently won the Garden Grower award in horticulture for her container grown succulents. She currently serves as treasurer of the Ladybugs.
Tiffany stated, “I am very grateful for the opportunity to be nominated for Outstanding Garden Club member. I am really proud and pleased that I received the award and want to thank my fellow Ladybugs for believing in me. Without all of you, this couldn’t have been possible.”
Angela said, “It’s an honor to receive this award – I feel I have learned so much in the last five years and want to thank everyone in the club for their knowledge, assistance, and guidance.”

The convention program theme of “Garden Art and More” was presented by Rob and Jan Young. The Young’s ‘Secret Garden’ located near Findlay, is a 28-year labor of love filled with perennials, annuals, vegetables, fruit and art. This small enclosed garden is a ‘hands-on’ garden as they prefer doing their own planning and planting. Rob and Jan wanted the feel of a Mediterranean/European garden with a variety of statues, water features and art. They started with a small space and one tree and today it is a wonderland of ‘found art’ and flowers.
“Contrived Containers” for floral designs was presented by Naomi Ormes, Cincinnati, Master Design Judge. Naomi shared how to create a show-stopper creative design with contrived containers using reused, re-purposed and recycled items.
‘Tickled by Feathers’ was presented by Marian and Steve Moeckel of Troy. They entertained with fun facts about birds. Additional learning sessions were on Bonsai, Propagation, Sit-Down Gardening, Landscaping, Pruning and Succulents. The convention had vendors with containers, garden plants, garden supplies, garden art and a wonderful flower show of floral designs and horticulture.
