Sweet & Sassy: Getting together with friends

By Linda Moody

A couple of events I recently covered — the Versailles Prom’s “An Evening of Stars” [the fifth annual spring formal for special needs adults in Darke County and surrounding community] and the Palestine Church’s Senior Prom dubbed “A fun evening for the Young at Heart in our community,” — I went by myself and was asked by several people, why I didn’t bring my son, Jamie, along.

Didn’t know I should or could was generally my response.

So when I heard the Persons Centered Services was going to have an open air dance two Fridays ago, I thought ‘Why not?” Jamie was more than willing to attend it with me.

We went and had lots of fun, which I knew we would. How could we not when Tom Everhart and Harmony were entertaining and lots of other people we know were there for socialization?

My son and I both love music and he dances more than I do. I love watching people dance and used to do it myself and wish I could now, but my knee would probably give out on me and I would fall and really “break a leg.”

Jamie never thanks me enough for doing things like this for him. He lets me know over and over again. And, he never failed me this time, either. I’m still hearing about it, not only about the music he heard but about the people who were there.

In fact, he jokingly called himself a “womanizer” as he attracted the attention of a few members of the opposite sex. He enjoyed that as well. That’s my boy, though. I’d take him to an event like that again. It was worth it.

He did say that by seeing a couple of people there, it gave him a whole new outlook on life. Jamie is very caring. I love him for that, too.

Thanks, PCS for having us and hosting such an event for the community.

See you next week after vacation.
