Sweet & Sassy: Patriarch will be missed by many

0

As I write this column [late evening Wednesday, July 20], I tearfully announce that my father, Lee Junior Moody, passed away four hours ago. He is the greatest man I’ve ever known and he was not only loved by his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, siblings, nieces and nephews, but by many friends who stopped in to see him.

He was a wonderful father to me and my three siblings, Ron, Bev and Brenda, and that love he had for us spread down the generations to our children and grandchildren.

Dad was the oldest of five children, having left behind brothers Harry and Jim and sister D’Arleen Waymire. Brother Dan and Dan’s wife, Becky, died 11 years ago on July 4 in a tragic vehicle accident.

We lost a kind, gentle soul and I am forever grateful God chose him to be our father. He was a family man with a good work ethic.

He served his country, worked at New Idea in Coldwater for 43-plus years, was old-fashioned and had a love for horses. Though he was kind of quiet, he did have a sense of humor, getting that from his father, Clark Leroy Moody, from some of the stories I’ve been hearing this week.

Dad was a veteran, a mentor, a friend, a hero and head of our home. I appreciate everything he did for us.

We hated to see him go but know he is in a better place. This would have been a big year for Dad. He would have celebrated his 70th anniversary with Mom [Bea Riffell Moody] on Sept. 5, and his 90th birthday on Sept. 21. It would have been nice to see those things happen, but they won’t and that’s okay. Dad is now in God’s hands.

He put up a courageous fight in his last days, and he will be forever missed by his family.

Speaking on behalf of my family, I would like to thank all of those who cared for him at Heartland of Greenville and from State of the Heart Hospice. He was treated well and was loved by many of them as well.

R.I.P. Dad.
