Sweet and Sassy

It (weather) is what it is

If we don’t see rain for awhile that would be all right by me. I don’t want a drought either, but I think Darke County and surrounding counties have had their share and need a little break from the wet stuff for now.

It’s so fortunate that there have been no serious injuries incurred because of the rising water. Yet, there are many homes and other properties that have been permanently damaged because of the influx of water. I sympathize with those who do not have flood insurance. I’m sure it is going to be costly for everybody concerned.

Some people have learned to make do with what they have and that’s admirable. People have had to get boats to rescue family members, and I think some animals were even rescued during the flood.

I know nature happens, but it is my hope that we don’t have just as bad a winter.

In the meantime, I would like to see some nice weather so that some of my vacation can be spent enjoying the outdoors. Besides, there are too many events coming up that are held outdoors, such as the North Star Picnic this weekend, Annie Oakley Festival, Gathering at Garst, Stateline Heritage Days, and, of course, the Great Darke County Fair, to mention a few, that need clement weather to attract crowds.

Nonetheless, it is what it is, and people will go if it’s that important to them.

Ansonia was pretty hard hit by the recent flooding as I’m sure a lot of other areas were. Roads that really haven’t been affected during other storms, were this time around, even State Route 47, west and east of Ansonia, North Main and part of Miller Street. Those are the ones that I saw. They were closed at times throughout the heavy rains. The properties of Bob and Pat Lee at the west edge of Ansonia and Rick and Marlene Reier east of town got their share of the heavy rains, and I hope everything goes well in their endeavors of getting life back to normal. I don’t ever remember seeing this much rain; if I did, it didn’t have an impact on my life like this one did.

Everybody, be safe…we never know what’s coming our way.
