Arcanum News: Fall activities abundant

The Arcanum Public Library invites adults, to join them for their second Cocoa, Coffee and Coloring session with a Halloween twist on Oct. 26, 10 to 11 a.m. There will be Halloween pages, bookmarks, and supplies provided. Feel free to bring your own, if you wish. Snacks and beverages will be provided.

Do you think you have the best tasting chili around? What about the hottest? Bring it out to A.R. Winery, 3564 Gordon-Landis Road, Arcanum on Oct. 29 at 6 p.m. and let the judges put it to the test! What about who has the best costume? Prizes for first place!

Congrats to the Arcanum High School 2016 Homecoming King and Queen Brandon Kinney and Shelby Horsza.

Abbottsville United Methodist Church invites you to their annual Thanksgiving Dinner on Nov. 12 with serving to start at 4 p.m. Dinner will be served for a good will donation of turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, homemade noodles, green beans, sweet potatoes, rolls, bread dressing, cole slaw, cucumber salad, cranberry salad, deviled eggs, punch and coffee. Dessert will feature assorted homemade pies and cakes! Stop by 4135 State Route 49 on the 12th for a delicious meal and some fellowship!

Grace United Methodist Church, 750 Arcanum-Ithaca Road, will host its Christmas Bazaar to be held on Nov. 5 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. A luncheon will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the church basement. The bazaar will feature handcrafted items and baked goods.

Have you got your tickets for the Arcanum Alumni Association’s Marinated Pork Chop dinner on Oct. 28? Proceeds benefit the Alumni Scholarship fund – look for tickets on sale at Sutton’s on Saturdays and all home football and volleyball games!

Trick or Treat in Arcanum will be on Oct. 30 from 2 to 4 p.m. You’ll also want to make plans for the Halloween Parade and Annual Bean Supper on Oct. 27 – starting at approximately 4 p.m. Parade line-up will be at the field house beginning at 6 p.m.

SAVE YOUR PLASTIC CAPS! The Arcanum Middle-School and High School Student Councils are collecting plastic caps to help Franklin-Monroe collect enough caps for a recycled plastic memorial bench to honor Katy and Hudson Nestor. Five hundred pounds of plastic caps needed! Examples of items needed are: plastic bottle caps, coffee can lids, peanut butter jar lids, medicine caps, milk caps, ketchup flip tops, butter tub lids, laundry detergent caps, spray can lids, etc…(Please clean, no bigger than 8 inches and no metal).

Thanks for helping our neighbors for a great cause! Please send in all plastic lids until end of January. Collection boxes are in ELA space. For more information, please contact the school.

The Arcanum Fire Company invites you to participate in their Portrait Fundraiser. For a $20 donation, you will receive a portrait session and your choice of an 8 x 10 print. Please mail your donation to Arcanum Fire Company, P.O. Box 58, Arcanum, Ohio 45304 and make checks payable to Arcanum Fire Company. Save the Date – On Nov. 5, the Family of God Ministries will have its Annual Holiday Bazaar and Luncheon from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 310 W. South St., Arcanum.

Don’t forget – Experience a life-giving Revival Oct. 20-23 at Pitsburg Church of the Brethren located at 8375 Pitsburg-Laura Road, beginning at 7 p.m. (Sunday at 10 a.m.) Rob Dothard will be leading on the theme: Why does God save?
