Using my favorite outdoor chair will soon wait for spring. Autumn’s warm afternoons are drifting away with the countdown to Thanksgiving. Recipes for pumpkin and squash are abundant in magazines and weekend newspaper reading. It always sounds tempting but then I revert to old standby recipes and keep the family happy.
After a long drawn-out election campaign, it was nice to cheer for the World Series. And both teams had great moments and deserved the big television audience. Everyone was happy to just feel okay about both sides of baseball’s 2016 finale! Both sides worked hard and earned respect.
Respect for our American veterans will be observed on Friday at the Laroy Farst Post#245 American Legion. Flag-burning is an annual event and is set for 4 p.m. You can drop off your flag at the Legion for an honorable disposal. Immediately after this ceremony there will be a bean supper and the public is invited.
Plan to enjoy an old fashioned Harvest Supper on Saturday from 4 to 6:30 p.m. at the New Madison United Methodist Church. Turkey and ham will be served along with a choice of plain or oyster dressing with mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans and rolls. An assortment of homemade salads are being served and there is a choice at dessert time. The bazaar table will be set up to offer baked goods, decorative items and gift possibilities made by the United Methodist Women’s Craft Club.
A reminder that the Universalist Church will be sponsoring Harvest Sounds on Sunday at 3 p.m. This annual musical event provides financial assistance for a worthy cause each fall. This year the church will provide proceeds of the concert to benefit the Greenville Clinic of the Recovery and Wellness Center of Midwestern Ohio. The church is located at 331 E. Washington St., New Madison.
