Sometimes now I take son Jamie with me on assignments. When he was younger, I couldn’t do that, but now I sometimes ask him to come along if I think he would enjoy it.
That happened Wednesday night at the preliminaries for the Miss Annie Oakley shooting competition. I helped keep score with Bill Gunckle and Jamie sat on the bleachers behind us. All 11 girls were great shooters and it lasted longer than it usually does on the first night of competition.
In fact, they shot from 100 feet back from the target before stopping for the evening. Only five of the girls were eliminated by then with six remaining to go on to the finals on Thursday night.
On the way home, he said, “That was the preliminaries? That seemed more like the main event than the preliminaries. Those girls were incredible. Those girls who were eliminated early have nothing to be ashamed of.”
Some of the things he comes up with…I’d like to say he got it from me, but I don’t think so. I just think he’s watching too much wrestling, soap operas and ballgames on TV.
Last Monday night, I was asked to take pictures for the Ansonia American Legion at its joint meeting with the Sons and the auxiliary. I was unable to do it, and informed them they could take photos and submit them. We’d be glad to publish them.
Jamie did attend that meeting and ended up taking the photos to my surprise.
Jim Kammer apparently handed Jamie his camera and my son took the photos. I hope they turn out okay.
Taking pictures is no problem for that boy. He does it all of the time. In fact, he has photos and more photos, with some yet to be processed. I’d say he takes as many photos as I do. Some are good and some not so good, because of lighting issues mostly. They’re in focus but those instant cameras he uses are probably not powerful enough in some situations.
Nonetheless, Jim Kammer wanted me to publicly thank Jamie “for a job well done” for the American Legion. So, here you go, son. Kudos to you. I’m proud of you. You are truly loved.
