New Madison News: Churches planning services

0

The bitter cold is part of the season this year. Any last-minute shopping or visits will be nippy but warmed with the holiday spirit of smiles and exchanges of “Enjoy the holiday!” There is a special feeling that brings out the best in all of us.

You are welcome to attend Christmas Eve services this year. All churches in our Tri-Village community are open to worship.

Here in New Madison, the United Methodist Church will celebrate Christmas Eve at 7 p.m. The church service is the usual 10:30 time on Sunday, Christmas Day.

The Harrison Street Baptist Church will have its Christmas Day service at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday.

The Universalist Church will have a candlelight service at 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve and worship on Christmas Sunday at 10 a.m.

Congratulations to Tim and Katheleen Nealeigh on their golden wedding anniversary. Tim was a Tri-Village teacher and Katheleen taught in Greenville. The couple wed Dec. 26, 1966, at Woodstock, Illinois. You can attend an open house on Dec. 26 from 2 to 5 in the basement of St. Louis Church in North Star. Tim directs the choir at St. Louis Church. He has been the director for 40 years. Both Tim and Katheleen enjoy bringing America’s past to life with their 18th and 19th Century Living History performances.

Take time from wrapping and baking to remember friends with a call or note. It is the time of year to re-connect and enjoy the memories. I started writing out memories for my sister and soon had a page full of wonderful times with great laughs and fun. It is a personal gift and I enjoyed doing it. If you can’t craft or bake or sew, maybe a page or an afternoon of memory exchange will be a lasting gift.

This is our great-grandson’s first Christmas. He smiles and coos. What a wonderful miracle!

Enjoy the holiday events and take time to enjoy the lights and music.
