Happy 50th wedding anniversary to Gene and Nelda Morris! Gene and Nelda were married on Aug. 26, 1965. They will be having an open house on Aug. 9 from 1 to 4 p.m. in the basement of Grace United Methodist Church. They family invites all their friends and family to attend and request no gifts.

They are the parents of three sons, Scott and wife, Marcy; Doug and wife, Darlene; and Mike and wife, Amanda. They have 11 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

Faith United Methodist Church will be hosting a “Family Picnic/ Movie Night” for the Arcanum community on Aug. 15. They invite families of the community to join them for a picnic meal with hamburgers and hot dogs at 6:30 p.m. with games for all ages to follow and a family-friendly movie showing at dusk. All activities, including the movie, will be outside, so bring your lawn chairs or blankets. Please plan to join them for all or part of the evening. In case of inclement weather, activities will be moved inside. Please mark this date on your calendar and plan to attend with your family. There is no cost to attend. You do not need a reservation; however, if you know you are coming, please contact Don Taylor at 692-5765 or the Faith Church office at 692-8934 with the number planning to attend as this will help in planning the amount of food to prepare. The Arcanum 14 and Under girls’ fast pitch softball team defeated a strong Lebanon team 4-3 in 11-innings to take the championship trophy in the Treaty City Shootout last weekend at the tournament at Stebbins Field in Greenville. The girls’ team remains undefeated following this tournament.

The Arcanum 10 and Under All-Star girls’ softball team were runners-up at the Treaty City Shootout.

The Arcanum High School All 70s Decade Reunion is right around the corner! If you attended AHS during the 1970s you are invited to attend the seventh annual gathering for fellowship and reminiscing. New this year will be Open Mic Night with Greg Stutz (’74) leading the music; if you are interested in performing, please give him a call at 937-818-7496. This year’s event will be held on Aug. 22 from 7 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. at the VFW, 219 N. Ohio St., Greenville. Organizers are Pam (Shiverdecker) Crawford (’74) and Vickie (Troutwine) Rhodehamel (’75); give Pam or Vickie a call if you have questions at 937-548-2247 or 937-692-6188. The event is casual dress, cash bar, snacks, 50/50 raffle, and no reservations are needed – $7.50 per person at the door.

The Arcanum Garden Club continues to beautify the old school grounds with a portion now called Generations Square. Recently, the club added a flag pole to display the American flag. The Arcanum-Butler Local Schools would like to thank the Garden Club for their continued partnership to maintain the beautiful landscaping and features at the old school site!

The Arcanum Wayne Trail Historical Society welcomes the community to their Coffee and Conversation series on Aug. 8 at 10 a.m. Dave Gray will be the guest host sharing stories about helping Arley, his grandfather and his dad Bud, in the construction business, playing sports in Arcanum and his years as an educator and administrator. It’s a fun time to relax and exchange stories, remembering families, friends and events while enjoying light refreshments. You are encouraged to tell your stories too. Or just come to listen and be ready to laugh. Join them at 123 W. George St. to hear stories and tell us what you remember; memories which will help preserve the history of our people. The series is free; students are welcome. This is a chance for newcomers to learn more about our area.

There’s still time to register for the ninth Tour de Donut in downtown Arcanum on Sept. 12. This event is now the largest one-day bicycle event in Ohio. For more information, visit www.thetourdedonut.com, deadline is Sept. 1 for registration.

A special event to celebrate 40 years of football at Arcanum High School is being planned for this fall; more details to come soon!
