Versailles News: Do it anyway

0

Have you ever felt as if the whole world is upside down? Criminals have more rights than law abiding citizens, illegal aliens and welfare recipients pay no taxes but receive benefits derived directly from taxpayer dollars. Celebrities are made of individuals exhibiting deviant behavior, equal opportunity penalizes the qualified, irresponsible behavior receives financing, speculation and opinions matter have a larger following than do facts or truth. To see the world correctly one must stand on their head.

It’s easy to throw in with the ways of the world, but it is laudable to hold on to your principles and morals. For once we lose our principles and morals what is left? This question brings me to a poem written by Dr. Kent M. Keith and made more popular by Mother Teresa. There are two lines added and credited to Mother Teresa. I have noted them with an (*) asterisk. I hope you not only enjoy this poem but, more importantly draw strength and encouragement from its wisdom.

The Paradoxical Commandments

By Dr. Kent M. Keith

People are often unreasonable, illogical, and self-centered;

Forgive them anyway.

If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish ulterior motives;

Be kind anyway.

If you are successful, you will win false friends and true enemies;

Succeed anyway.

The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow;

Do good anyway.

Honesty and frankness make you vulnerable;

Be honest and frank anyway.

The biggest men and women with the biggest ideas can be shot down by the smallest men and women with the smallest minds. Think big anyway. People favor underdogs but follow top dogs; Fight for a few underdogs anyway.

What you spend years building may be destroyed overnight;

Build anyway.

People really need help but may attack you if you do help them;

Help people anyway.

If you find serenity and happiness, people may be jealous;

Be happy anyway.*

Give the world the best you have, and you’ll get kicked in the teeth;

Give the world the best you’ve got anyway.

You see, in the final analysis, it is between you and God.

It was never between you and them anyway.*
