The Arcanum Alumni Advisory Committee invites you to help them “Kick Off” their first fundraiser for the 2018 Scholarship Fund. On Friday, October 13 they will offer a Marinated Pork Chop Dinner including applesauce, a bag of chips, and a dinner roll for $7.50 at the Arcanum Field House prior to the football game. This will be available for pick up/curbside or dine-in. All proceeds will go to the Arcanum Alumni Scholarship Fund. The committee also wishes to thank the community for their support of the Alumni and supporters of Arcanum Schools; last year they were able to award five $1,000 scholarships to deserving seniors. They plan to match that accomplishment again this year. You can help by purchasing a dinner ticket – they will be available at the home football games, September 5 vs. Bradford and September 29 vs. Bethel.

Happy Retirement to Claude and Trudy Kirkpatrick! If you haven’t heard, Picnic’s Pizza and Grill changed hands this past week – Claude and Trudy sold the business to Sarah and Charlie Billenstein. The new owners stated “After months of anticipation, Sarah and I are finally ready to announce that by the end of August… we will be the proud new owners of Picnic’s Pizza & Grille in Arcanum! We would like to thank Trudy and Claude Kirkpatrick for their partnership and guidance during the transition period. We have big shoes to fill, for sure! Please join us as we wish the Kirkpatrick’s all the best in their retirement! Picnic’s is a staple of Arcanum – we feel like it’s pretty amazing as-is so there won’t be many changes. We are implementing a Point of Sale system and adding some personal touches to the décor. But we love the menu as-is. Watch for more details as we get closer to the GRAND OPENING under our management. We look forward to serving the community for years to come!”

Mary Trittscuh, a junior at Arcanum High School, was selected as one of only 45 delegates to take part in a five-day leadership and advocacy training program. The high school juniors and seniors participated in Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities’ (OOD) annual Youth Leadership Forum (YLF) from July 30 – August 3 where they learned how to continue their journey of independence into adulthood. Forum delegates took part in various activities that taught them about choosing a career, the history of disability as a culture and instruction on self-advocacy. The youth leaders also learned to develop their own leadership plans and create their own personal goals. While attending YLF, the delegates went on their own private tour of the Statehouse. They also met people there who have disabilities and found success in their careers, like Nate Fernandes, who works on ensuring the Secretary of State website is accessible for those with disabilities; Mark Seifarth, who has worked at the Statehouse for 35 years as a legislative and advocacy consultant; and Blake Haxton, a lawyer and a Paralympic rower, as well as a former OOD Commissioner. Congratulations, Mary! What a wonderful opportunity!

Don’t forget the Arcanum Wayne Trail Historical Society’s event on September 14 at 7 p.m. by Arcanum High School Agriculture Program Instructor, Brian Pohlman sharing about the return of the FFA program at AHS.
