Arcanum News: Kitchen Tour coming to Arcanum

The Arcanum Garden Club is sponsoring a kitchen tour of eight local kitchens on Sunday, October 15. One of the stops includes the stylish new kitchen of Linda and Mike Schwieterman on Littles Road near Arcanum.

The tour includes one new home, three newer homes, two recently remodeled kitchens, one vintage kitchen and a commercial kitchen.

For advanced tickets at $10 each, call Jenny Quigney at 937-459-8090 or pick up at Rose Post of Ben Franklin in Arcanum. Tickets are $12 at the door. Also available for purchase on the day of the tour will be chances to win a refurbished Kitchenaid mixer.

Congratulations to the Homecoming King Wills Troutwine and Queen Madison Goubeaux who were crowned prior to the football game last Friday night.

Charles Nick, a 1996 graduate of Arcanum High School will be appearing on the hit ABC show Shark Tank to pitch the company he co-founded, Third Wave Water; a capsule that makes the water you use for your coffee perfect, free of any mineral imperfections. Charles went to work in the aviation industry after graduation and worked at NASA for a number of years. He returned to Ohio in 2013 and began the work on his invention. The Shark Tank episode aired last evening, October 8. Best of luck to Charles and his company.

Another AHS graduate from the class of 1977, Roger Snell is a Pulitzer Prize winner and author. Roger is a huge baseball fan, especially for the Chicago Cubs, and wrote the book “Root for the Cubs” about the 1929 Cubs’ pitcher Charlie Root and his struggle during that season; Root was a native of Middletown, Ohio and struggled to regain his big league pitching form during that season. The book shares his struggle on and off the field as the Cubs battled their way to the 1929 World Series. Check out Roger’s website at www.rootforthecubs.com. Roger is currently writing a second book entitled “Love, Grandpa” due out in November. Roger left Arcanum and went on to study journalism at The Ohio State University. He lives in Frankfort, Kentucky and most recently served as the Director of Communications at the Kentucky Department of Insurance.

Congratulations to Lexi Unger and Carter Gray on great golf seasons! Senior Elle Siculan broke the school record on the number of career assists in volleyball this past week in the match against Tri-Village, congrats to Elle.

October Happenings you’ll don’t want to miss – The Bean Supper and Halloween Parade is Thursday, October 26 starting at approximately 4 p.m., the parade line up will be at the field house with the parade beginning at 6 p.m. Trick or Treat is Sunday, October 29 from 2 to 4 p.m.

Put this on your Calendar! You won’t want to miss “Fall Into Christmas” at Brumbaugh’s Fun and Fruit Farm on November 11 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at 6420 Arcanum Hollansburg Road. There will be craft vendors and local artisans, food trucks (McNasty’s, Tin Roof Mobile Food, Kettle Fixins and Creme de la Creme Cakery), chainsaw sculptor, live music, Santa Claus (12 to 5 p.m.), live nativity and petting zoo (12 to 5 p.m.). Fun farm admission is $8 or SAVE $3 when you bring three can goods for the Thanksgiving Food Drive which will be donated to FHC Fellowship Church in Arcanum.

The admission price includes hay rides, Winnie’s Cracked Corn Box, Human Hampster Wheel, Willy Worm Wagon Express, Billy Bee’s Flight o’ Fun, Storybook Forest, Monster Mountain and Grandpa’s Fun Acre. This event is hosted by The Arcanum Business Association.

On Saturday, December 9, an inaugural Christmas in the Park & Horse Parade will come to Arcanum. This event is co-hosted by the Arcanum Area Business Association and the Arcanum Athletic Boosters. Parade entries that will be accepted are horse-drawn carriages, wagons and buggies; additionally they will also accept motorized vehicles for the parade that are decorated with festive Christmas lights.
