After a chilly Halloween and leaves starting to pile up in corners of porches and patios, we are sure that we need to think about storage for outdoor furniture and location of rakes. And, lurking in our minds —- get the snow shovel ready.

It is also the time of harvest and traditional celebrations. Locally the United Methodist Church is again offering its Harvest Supper the second Saturday of November. On Saturday, Nov. 11, it is time for turkey, oyster dressing, mashed potatoes and gravy! And forget the calories, time for pumpkin pie (or your choice) for dessert. The menu will include salads and side items. The serving begins at 4:30 p.m. and a free will offering will be accepted. The community will be observing the Thanksgiving holiday on Wednesday, November 15 with a service at Cedar Grove Church with all local churches participating. The time of this service is 6:30 p.m.

With Veterans Day observed on Saturday, November 11, it is also time to turn in old flags at the American Legion. The flags will be handles with dignity and honor at a flag burning ceremony.

The deadline or ordering Tri-Village basketball fan sportswear is nearing. The junior high cheerleaders urge you to make an order by Sunday, November 5. “Best is the Standard” is the theme and two choices of color is available for short sleeved or long-sleeved t-shirts, crew or hooded sweatshirts. Go to the school’s website. You will order, pay and then pick up at the school. Voting is Thursday, Noember 2. Decisions will be made and if you want a voice, then vote.

Reminders from last week. There will be a new group meeting at the NewMadison Public Library. Interested in writing? Heather Bergman of the Tri-Village staff will work with those interested in improving skills beginning on Tuesday, November 7 at at 6 p.m.

Also if you are interested in consideration for a position with the library’s board of trustees there is an opening and it begins in January, 2018. This is a seven-year term. Contact Brenda Miller, director.
