The Village of Arcanum is decorating Ivestor Park with Christmas lights for the upcoming Christmas season. They are looking for volunteers who would like to help decorate a section of the park in memory of a loved one. They are also looking for local service groups or businesses to help with decorating a section of the park as well; there is also a desperate need for extension cords. If you would like to donate extension cords for the event or if you would like to decorate a section of the park please contact Bill Kessler at the Arcanum Village office at 937-692-8500.

The Arcanum Business Association is also accepting donations for Christmas lights. If you would like to donate lights to be used for the Christmas light display you can drop off at the village of Arcanum office at 1 Pop Rite Drive. If would like to give a monetary donation please write your check to the Arcanum Business Association and mail to: 24 W. George Street, Arcanum, Ohio 45304. There are also donation boxes located at the following businesses in Arcanum: Belle Fiole Tanning, Miller’s Tavern, Greenville National Bank, Second National Bank, Pampered Pets, Fourman Variety Store, Village of Arcanum office and Orme Hardware.

The 5th Annual Arcanum Senior Citizens Christmas Luncheon will be held on Wednesday, December 6 at 1:30 p.m. at Arcanum High School. This event is free and open to all senior citizens of the Arcanum community. The event will take place at the Arcanum-Butler Local Schools Cafetorium. Historic Bear’s Mill looks even better by candlelight. Join them for the Annual Candlelight Walk as step into the Holiday Season with one of our favorite events on Friday, December 1 from 5 to 9 p.m. This is a very popular event and well attended by our supporters so plan to visit, take in the sites and spread good cheer to all that you encounter at Bear’s Mill.

Don’t forget to plan on attending the Christmas in the Park and the first annual Horse Parade on Saturday December 9 from 10 a.m. to 8 pm. in Arcanum. A very busy day has been planned for this Christmas festival in Arcanum. The day will start off with Breakfast with Santa at the Arcanum High School from 8 to 11 a.m. Local craft vendors and artisans will be both inside and outside at the Arcanum Field House from 12 noon to 5 p.m. and throughout Ivester park from 12 noon to 7 p.m. A variety of food trucks will be staged through the park from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Live Christmas music will be playing in the Field House and throughout the park throughout the day. An ice sculptor will be in the park from noon to 2 p.m. creating unique festive sculptures. A live nativity and petting zoo will be in Ivester Park from Noon to 4 p.m. Beginning at 6 p.m. they will have the Candy Cane Hunt in the park complete with prizes for every child. This is a very fun activity for the children to find the hidden candy canes in the park with flashlights. Each candy cane is numbered and they can be redeemed for prizes in the Scout House after the hunt.

The evening will highlight the Christmas Horse Parade beginning at 7 p.m. to officially welcome Santa to the Village of Arcanum. The parade will travel from Main Street through Ivester Park which will be full of lights and festive music. The park will be decorated by various groups and community organizations, and the children will have the opportunity to meet with Santa after the parade in the Scout House. Also, there will be horse and carriage rides available after the parade. These horse-drawn carriage rides will begin in the park and journey through the park and continue to the downtown area. The Arcanum fire department will have a bonfire going to warm up during the winter evening.

My husband and I had the privilege of attending the wedding of Jenna Montgomery and Sean Ward in Zanesville, Ohio a couple of weeks ago. Jenna is the granddaughter of former residents, Virginia and the late Ralph Clark of South Main Street. Jenna’s parents are Paul and Connie (Clark) Montgomery. It was beautiful barn wedding at Weatherington Woods in North Zanesville.

Speaking of Virginia Clark – she will celebrate her 90th birthday on December 1st. For those of you who know her, the family has asked for a Surprise Card Shower. Her address is P.O. Box 82, Crooksville, Ohio 43731.
