November has to be one of my favorite months; whether I’m working on something at the house, taking a walk, or driving to work or out through the country-side, I’m reminded of God’s blessings. What are you grateful for each day? Some of us write or perhaps blog on Facebook what we are thankful for, I encourage you to do this all year – maybe in a journal or in the back of your Bible, make a list of your blessings.
The Arcanum Wayne Trail Historical Society invite you to attend their “Show and Share” meeting on Thursday at 7 p.m. Members of the society are asking everyone to bring in one family heirloom or personal treasure to share with them. They are interested in seeing and hearing about something “old” that you are willing to bring in and briefly share its history. This meeting is sure to be fun and a relaxing evening. Mark your calendar and SAVE THE DATE for their Annual Christmas Bazaar coming Nov. 27 from 6 to 8:30 p.m., and Nov. 28 from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. – more details to come soon!
It’s time for Gala’s Annual Christmas Open House at Country Lane Treasures at 4790 Grubbs-Rex Road, Arcanum. Stop by for unique Christmas items this Thursday and Friday from 1 to 6 p.m. and on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Operation Christmas Child is a 5k one-mile walk/run will be held Saturday at 9 a.m. at Immanuel Baptist Church of Arcanum. IBC and Faith Baptist Church of Greenville are co-sponsoring this event for the benefit of Operation Christmas Child, a ministry of Samaritan’s Purse International. The registration fee is $15 and a filled shoebox; participants will receive a free t-shirt if registered by Oct. 30. Arcanum-Butler Local Schools will be open to the public for adult walking Monday-Thursday evenings from 6 to 8 p.m., Nov. 30 through March 31, 2016. Walking will be restricted to the first floor tiled hallways.
It’s that time of year again for the senior citizens of the Arcanum-Butler Local School District to enjoy a nice lunch and some great entertainment from the students of Arcanum-Butler Local Schools! This free lunch will begin at 1:30 p.m. on Dec. 9 in the cafetorium. Please RSVP by calling 692-5174 Ext. 1337 by Dec. 1.
The Arcanum Wayne Trail Historical Society #5 designated historic site is the John Smith Co. General Store commonly referred to as “Smiths’” currently located at 105-107-109 W. George St. in Arcanum. The plaque marker reads “1851” when the first building was erected at the far east end of the current building. The John Smith Co. General Store was in business from 1851-1985 and was the longest family held business in Ohio. The building was also listed on the Ohio Register of Historical Sites. Site #6 is 105 North St. in Arcanum. This was the site of the Founder of Arcanum, William and Nancy (Rice) Gunder’s log house back in 1833. At present this was the home of the late William (Bill) Gunder, the great-grandson of the original founder. The #7 and last dedicated historic site is the grave stone of William Gunder who died in 1863 and is located in the back of the old part of the Ithaca Cemetery in Twin Township off of State Route 503. The cemetery and stones of William and Nancy are part of the Historic Driving Tour that was printed in brochure form and publicized this spring as part of the Ithaca tour.
Arcanum High School Achieves Food Drive Goal – AHS National Honor Society want to thank the students of AHS, community members, and Arcanum-Butler Local Schools staff members for their outstanding support of their Trick or Treat for Canned Food Drive. This year our students were able to collect 3,698 items that will be given to local food pantries in Arcanum to help those in need. They would also like to thank the generous support of Sutton’s Foods who helped make this event a true success. The amount collected would not have been possible without their very generous support.
