The family of Glenn Eley invite you to stop by and wish him a Happy 100th Birthday! The family is hosting an Open House to celebrate his 100th Birthday. They will gather together to share memories and laughter on Sunday, June 28, from 1 to 4 p.m. at 1923 Gordon-Landis Rd., Arcanum, Ohio; all those family, friends and acquaintances of Glenn’s are asked to attend and share in this celebration. Glenn is a World War II veteran and a long-time employee of Orme Hardware (formerly Arcanum Hardware). His wife, Helen (Goins), died in August 2014, and was the mother of his three children, Larry of Arcanum, Terry of Greenville and Eleta Baughman of Lewisburg. There are 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Eley graduated from eighth grade at the one-room Mt. Summit School on Grubbs-Rex Road. He then attended Arcanum High School until his sophomore year. During his military days from October 1942 to April 1945, he was a member of the 1200 Division Armor, and served in Germany. He is a lifetime member of both the West Manchester American Legion and the West Sonora VFW. Happy Birthday Glenn! Have a great birthday party!

The Arcanum Wayne Trail Historical Society met last week and decided to cancel all the plans for the remainder of the summer including the Farmer’s Market. It is with deep regret that that had to cancel the summer schedule but having their series cancelled will be a disappointment to many who have enjoyed hearing stories of days past. It was a wonderful time for those in our local communities to gather with friends and neighbors to share memories of peoples, places, and events.

Thank you to the Arcanum-Butler School Community for showing up for our graduates last weekend! The support during the processional was truly amazing and help set the tone for a special day. The day would not have been possible without the help of many! Thank You to class advisor Heather Whittaker, High School secretary Kim Hollinger, Guidance Counselor Katherine Bourelle, Technology Director David Baker, Matt Grote for the Drone Footage, Maintenance Supervisor Jeff Brown, The Rose Post, Orme Hardware, B2 Studios for the live-streaming, Route 49 Transport for the stage, Brumbaugh Construction for the use of their stairs, and Flory Landscaping for the many beautiful plants and trees, Chief Marcus Ballinger and John Wilt of the Arcanum Police Department, The Arcanum Fire Department, and the many staff members directing traffic.

A very special thanks to Rachel Fearon and Rose Lambert for decorating the stage! Thank you to the senior parents who helped decorate the processional route. Finally, a thank you to Principal Jason Stephan. We saw the “Best Version” of Jason over the last few weeks who worked tirelessly to make this a special end of the year for all HS Students and in particularly the 2020 Graduates! CONGRATULATIONS 2020 GRADUATES! It was a day to remember for sure!

Arcanum Junior High Boys Basketball will have skill training workouts starting June 9, 2020. The workouts will be on Tuesday and Thursday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. in the HS gym. Athletes should enter the back door near the locker rooms (Door 8). In order to participate, athletes will need to meet the requirements set forth in the Covid-19 Release Form found online and have the signature page of that document signed by a parent. Athletes will be screened before each session to insure health and safety.
