By Vickie Rhodehamel - Arcanum News for the week of June 29, 2020

We all know 2020 has been a bummer of a year so far. But I have heard of another milestone birthday coming up on July 8th! Her family is requesting a card shower for her. If you know Helen North please shower her with a note and a birthday card – mail it to her at 509 South Main Street, Arcanum, Ohio 45304.

The Arcanum Preservation Society invites everyone to join in for this free event. One New Update – please bring a picnic basket to share with your family; the event will not be a carry-in shared meal. The children’s parade will be at 2 p.m. An entry/release form is required for participation where you can register in advance or at the event. The children may walk, roll, push, pull or drag but please, no battery or motor-powered entry will be allowed. There will be judging so be creative with your patriotic decorations. Check their Facebook page for the entry/release form and more details. Arcanum Preservation Society does not have a newsletter yet but that doesn’t mean you can’t join their email list now to receive info about upcoming meetings and events. Simply message them on Facebook or send an email to arcanumpreservationsociety@gmail.com. Organizers are also looking to borrow or will gladly accept donations of new or gently used flags, bunting and other types of 4th of July decorations for the Old Time 4th of July Picnic & Children’s Parade. If you are able to help please contact them at arcanumpreservationsociety@gmail.com. Thank you!

The Village of Arcanum is reserving the dates of July 23 to 26 for anyone wishing to participate in a community-wide garage sale event. Please practice the guidelines established by the State of Ohio. First, practice social distancing by doing the following: place posters encouraging social distancing for customers to see upon their arrival, set up tables and chairs 6 feet apart, use heavy-duty tape to form a flow for customers to follow throughout the sale, ask customers to stand in a line, while spread apart, during high traffic volume. Additionally, clean all tables and chairs several times a day throughout the day. Use hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol on tables and other places for your customer. Be sure to wear a mask and disposable gloves at all times during the sale. Be Safe, for COVID-19 questions, call 1-833-4-ASK-ODH or coronavirus.ohio.gov.

The Village of Arcanum also announced that the Arcanum Village Community Pool will not open this summer as originally stated. Opening has been top priority; however, the repairs needed are far more than originally anticipated. Village employees/staff will continue to complete repairs throughout the summer in order to open in 2021. They apologize and thank you for your understanding. Thank you to Walker’s Lawn & Landscape for donating their services to update the landscaping at the pool.

Congratulations to the Village of Arcanum’s newest council members, Tammy Bruner and Taylor Somers! Council members Bruner and Somers were sworn in by Mayor Millard during the recent council meeting on June 9, 2020.

There will also be Mosquito Spraying in the village on July 8 and August 7. The exact time of the applications will be shared through social media and Code Red in a timely manner for planning purposes.
