Have you see the Traveling Picnic Basket?

The “Traveling Picnic Basket” has been all over town inviting everyone to the Old Time Fourth of July event in Ivestor Park. The Arcanum Preservation Society invites everyone to join in for this free event. One New Update – please bring a picnic basket to share with your family; the event will not be a carry-in shared meal. The children’s parade will be at 2 p.m. An entry/release form is required for participation where you can register in advance or at the event. The children may walk, roll, push, pull or drag but please, no battery or motor-powered entry will be allowed. There will be judging so be creative with your patriotic decorations. Check their Facebook page for the entry/release form and more details. Arcanum Preservation Society does not have a newsletter yet but that doesn’t mean you can’t join their email list now to receive info about upcoming meetings and events. Simply message them on Facebook or send an email to [email protected]. Organizers are also looking to borrow or will gladly accept donations of new or gently used flags, bunting and other types of 4th of July decorations for the Old Time 4th of July Picnic & Children’s Parade. If you are able to help please contact them at [email protected]. Thank you!

The Twin Township Trustees are hosting a cemetery stone cleaning and work day Saturday, September 12 from 8 to 11:30 a.m. The township will supply water, D2 and soap. Those interested in helping should bring a bucket and a soft bristle brush. They can email an RSVP to [email protected] or txt 937-423-1085. This is a great community service project for older students and adults. Organizers request the community to join in and come to the work day.

The Arcanum Public Library has reopened to the public. Patrons are requested, but not required, to wear masks in the Library and are requested to maintain the 6 foot social distance. Our staff will be wearing masks and will be sanitizing all high touch surfaces frequently to ensure everybody’s safety. Returned materials will be isolated for 72 hours before being shelved. They will be limiting the number of patrons in the building to 15, so they are asking that all patrons keep their visits brief to allow more people to access the building. There will be 3 computers available for public use and these will have a 30 minute time limit.

Patrons can check out items from the Arcanum Public Library ONLY at this time. There is NO Delivery of books from other Libraries. (Please note that our library has no control over when delivery will resume.) You can search for item availability on the website or by downloading the COOL Libraries app from your mobile app store. Either contact the Library at 937-692-8484 and give us your list over the phone or send an email to [email protected]. • Note: It may take up to 48 hours to process your request. If you do not have access to our catalog please contact the Library at 937-692-8484 and we will be happy to assist you over the phone. They would like to thank all of our patrons for their understanding during this difficult time. And as a reminder eBooks are available 24/7 from the Ohio Digital Library at https://ohdbks.overdrive.com or via the Libby app. They look forward to seeing all of our patrons soon.

The Arcanum Alumni Association would like to thank the following alumni classes for donating money for the purchase of tables for future banquets. Special thanks to the class of 1963, 1965, 1969, 1971, 1988, 1993 and 2009. They also wish to issue an extended invitation to join their group to plan future alumni events and support the scholarship program. Their next meeting in September 14 at 6:30 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church.

The BIG Christmas Bazaar held annually at the Arcanum Wayne Trail Historical Society has been set for November 27 and 28th. They always appreciate your donations of nice, clean used Christmas décor; if you have some you no longer need or want please leave them on the back porch of the historical house on the porch. You’ll want to put these dates on your calendar as this is one annual event not to miss!

Many thanks to Sue Besecker and Ron and Shirley Baker for all their hard work in getting the Arcanum Military Banner Project last year. Special thanks to the staff of the Arcanum Village for hanging the banners again this year. Due to the pandemic this Spring, no new orders were taken; however, they do plan to add new banners in 2021. Look for more information to come later this fall if you are interested.
