Same standard should be used

Editor:

I have taken the opportunity to review the Dear Colleague Letter on Transgender Students and feel obligated to report.

From the section Compliance with Title IX, paragraph 2: “Because transgender students often are unable to obtain identification documents.. .requiring students to produce such identification documents.. .may violate Title IX.. .” This is paraphrased, of course: I encourage you to read your own copy.

As I read this, transgender students are not obligated to provide identification. The singularity of this statement is discriminatory in and of itself: everybody should be treated to the same standard. The policy uses discrimination in an attempt to end discrimination.
