On November 7, residents of Darke County will be asked to vote on Issue 3. This levy is a request for funds to implement a countywide emergency communication system. In no way do I dispute the need for such a system in our county. I do, however, have a significant problem with the way in which this levy request has been proposed. As proposed, this tax levy has no end. Some levies have a defined end, such as a new school building, and then they go away. Others have a defined end but, at their end, are placed before the voters again for a renewal. This levy will go on FOREVER, whether or not there is still a need. Think about this before you vote. Let’s send the commissioners back to do their homework and present this request in a way that makes more sense.
