GREENVILLE – The Greenville baseball team began its season with a pair of losses to Stebbins on Saturday, losing both games in the top of the seventh.
Stebbins won the first game 4-0 and then won the second game 5-2.
In the season opener Tyler Netzley pitched six scoreless innings before Stebbins broke the scoreless tie with four runs in the top of the seventh. Netzley pitched 6 1/3 innings, allowing one earned run and three unearned runs on four hits, eight strikeouts and four walks. Chris Force pitched 2/3 of an inning, allowing no runs on two hits, one strikeout and one walk.
Brandon Beyke led Greenville with two hits in the season opener. Jacob Hounshell and Logan Eldridge also had a hit.
Stebbins had six hits and no errors in the game while Greenville had four hits and one error.
In the second game of the doubleheader Stebbins again scored the winning run in the top of the seventh. After Greenville took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, Stebbins tied the game in the second and went up 2-1 in the fourth. Greenville tied it at 2-2 in the fifth, but Stebbins scored three runs in the seventh for the 5-2 final score.
Stebbins had six hits and two errors in the game. Greenville had four hits and three errors.
Kyle Mills was 1-for-3 with a RBI in the game. Beyke went 1-for-2, walked and scored a run. Eldridge and Grant Minnich both had hits while Hounshell scored a run.
AJ Bowers pitched a complete game, allowing one earned run and four unearned runs on six hits, three walks and five strikeouts.
Greenville, which is now 0-2 on the season, will travel to Marion Local on Monday.
