Mississinawa Valley softball beats Botkins 31-1

UNION CITY – The Mississinawa Valley softball team exploded for 31 runs in its season opener against Botkins on Saturday.

Mississinawa Valley scored 14 runs in the first inning, 14 in the second, two in the third and one in the fourth while Botkins scored its lone run in the top of the fifth in the 31-1 five inning run rule.

Mississinawa Valley had nine hits in the game while Botkins had two. MV walked 19 times.

Paxton Scholl led the Blackhawks as she went 3-for-3 with three walks, three RBIs and five runs scored. Kinsie Blocher went 2-for-3 with four RBIs and four runs scored. Bailey Johnson was 2-for-2 with three walks, four RBIS and four runs scored.

Leslie Dirksen pitched the complete game for Mississinawa Valley, allowing one earned run on two hits, no walks and 13 strikeouts.

Mississinawa Valley is now 1-0 on the season. The Hawks will begin Cross County Conference play on Tuesday when the play host to Miami East.
