Versailles’ Brett McEldowney, Jacob Heitkamp throw a no-hitter vs. Miami East

DAYTON – Brett McEldowney and Jacob Heitkamp combined to throw a no-hitter as the Versailles baseball team began its season with a 4-0 win against Miami East on Saturday at Wright State University.

McEldowney pitched the first five innings for the Tigers, allowing no runs on no hits, one walk and three strikeouts. Heitkamp finished off the game with two scoreless innings, allowing no hits, no walks and one hit batter while striking out two.

Versailles’ offense scored one run in the bottom of the second, one in the third and two in the fourth. The Tigers managed seven hits.

McEldowney led the offense as he was 1-for-2 with a double, a sacrifice fly and three RBIs. Kurtis Rutschilling went 1-for-2 with a walk, a stolen base and a RBI. Austin Knapke was 2-for-3 with a run scored.

Kyle Subler went 1-for-4 with a triple and a run scored. Adam Lyons was 1-for-3 and scored a run. Jared Niekamp had a hit, and Jacob Watren scored a run.

Miami East and Versailles both committed two errors.
