Versailles boys win home track meet

VERSAILLES – Although hats, gloves and coats were the garb of the day, the Versailles Boys Invitational track and field meet went on as scheduled Saturday morning.

Versailles won the Black Division with 142 points over St. Henry at 124 and Twin Valley South at 90. Shawnee came in fourth with 86 points followed by Houston at 69.5, Arcanum with 55, Marion Local with 35.5 and Versailles B with 20.

The Orange Division was captured by Minster with 216 points with Russia in the second spot with 118 and New Bremen and Ansonia tied for third with 66. Crestview was fifth with 46 points followed by Bradford and Newton with 32, Botkins with 31 and Royalmont Academy with 1.

Versailles won the 4×800 meter relay in the Black Division with a time of 8:55.12 with Arcanum finishing third and Versailles B coming in seventh. Ansonia finished fifth in the same event in the Orange Division.

The 110 meter hurdles were won in the Black Division by sophomore Josh Steinbrunner of Versailles with a time of 15.92. Arcanum seniors Daniel O’Donnell and Austin Gibboney placed fifth and eighth.

The Orange Division 100 meter dash saw Austin Alexander of Ansonia finish second, only missing first place by a hundredth of a second. Zach Miller of Bradford finished sixth with Dane Wentworth of Ansonia placing eighth. Arcanum’s Dylan Burns placed fifth in the 100 meter dash of the Black Division.

Versailles won the Black Division 4×200 meter relay with a time of 1:36.53. Arcanum placed fourth in the event. In the Orange Division Bradford finished sixth.

In the 1,600 meter run Arcanum’s Isaac Stephens placed second with a time of 5:00.60 in the Black Division. Brooks Blakeley of Versailles finished third. The Orange Division saw Bradford’s Johnny Fike place fifth with a time of 5:08.95.

Versailles won the Black Division 4×100 meter relay with a time of 46.91. Arcanum placed seventh in the event. In the Orange Division Ansonia placed second by turning in a 48.19. Bradford placed fourth in the race.

Freshman Cole Condon of Versailles B won the 400 meter dash in the Black Division with a time of 54.45. Aaron Mangen and Adam Huelskamp of Versailles placed sixth and seventh. In the Orange Division Kurt Hoover of Bradford ran a 58.55 to finish fifth.

The Black Division 300 meter hurdles was won by Josh Steinbrunner of Versailles with a time of 44.22. Austin Gibboney of Arcanum placed second. In the Orange Division Hunter Penkal of Bradford finished seventh with a time of 50.52.

The 800 meter run of the Black Division found Noah Pleiman of Versailles placing second with a time of 2:16.09 with Isaac Stephens of Arcanum and Brooks Blakeley of Versailles finishing third and fourth.

A trio of Versailles runners were second through fourth in the Black Division 200 meter dash. Trevor Noggle, Kyle Marchal and Ayden Moran brought home the points for the Tigers. In the Orange Division Austin Alexander of Ansonia finished second with a time of 25.43 with Zach Miller of Bradford and Dane Wentworth of Ansonia finishing fifth and sixth.

Sophomore Joe Spitzer of Versailles won the 3,200 meter run in the Black Division. He ran the eight laps in 10:25.24. Adam Gehret of Versailles B placed seventh in the event.

The 4×400 meter relay in the Black Division was won by Versailles with a time of 3:46.25. Arcanum placed fourth while Versailles B came in fifth. In the Orange Division Ansonia placed fifth followed by Bradford in sixth.

The Black Division shot put found Mitchell Sink of Arcanum placing third with an effort of 41 feet 10.5 inches. A J Ahrens and Kody Setser of Versailles finished fourth and eighth.

A trio of Versailles throwers placed in the Black Division discus event. A J Ahrens, Garrett Thompson and Nathan Nelson placed fourth, fifth and seventh. The Orange Division saw Ansonia’s Heath Barga throw 119 feet 4 inches to place fourth.

The long jump in the Black Division had George Grow of Versailles B jumping 16 feet 10.5 inches for seventh place. In the Orange Division Ansonia’s Dane Wentworth and Devyn Sink placed fourth and sixth.
