Little Eldora opens 2016 season

ROSSBURG – A very cold and breezy day did not stop Little Eldora from racing on Sunday as 159 drivers showed up to get their race cars out on the track.

Among the racers participating were David Bretz, a 6-year-old boy.

His father said that he got to race a little at the end of last season and they will make it a full season this year.

“I like racing, and it feels good to be on the track,” David said.

Amanda Morton is a runner up senior champ last year. She only lost by eight points from being the senior champ.

She said she took on another woman that raced for the championship. Morton, from Cridersville, races at Eldora, Fremont, State Line and also likes heading to Mississippi to race.

“She got me into racing, and I have been racing for five years,” her husband, Zane Morton, said.

They are waiting on their 15-month-old daughter to be old enough to race, which they figured would happen when their daughter turns 3 or 4 years old.

Shauntae Stone is a wife of a driver. She said she feels safe but worries a little about her husband.

“I have a blast, and it is inspiring to get out there,” she said.

These are fun activities, she said, but she wishes the summer weather would hurry up.

A friend of the Stones owns his own bus to travel to races like this. The bus has a bed that folds down, and then he puts an air bed on top of that to sleep. They run a generator for electric in the bus.

Inside the bus they get to work on motors on his workshop he has in the bus. He has eight flat bottom cars himself and builds cars for himself and other racers.

The bus lets them race three nights a weekend because they can travel and sleep inside. He is 62 years old and still races and figures he will until the day he dies. The cars he owns that was there on Sunday were 00 and 8.

“It’s my first year racing,” Russell Dennis, of Concord, said. “I love Eldora and will be returning.”
