PITSBURG – The Franklin Monroe softball team suffered a tough 6-5 loss to Milton-Union on Thursday.

The first inning the Milton-Union girls scored four runs but then let the Jets score five, making the score 5-4 in favor of the Jets.

In the top of the second the Jets only let four girls bat. In the bottom of the second, however, Jets only had four girls hit, too. Nychelle Cool had a single to left field in the inning.

The score remained 5-4 all the way up to the seventh inning. The third, fourth, fifth, and sixth all seen either three or four batters for both teams the whole time.

In the top of the seventh things changed around, though. It started off by the Jets making one error by overthrowing the ball and putting Anna Willson on base. Then Masey Gregg came up and hit it to outfield, putting Willson on second and Gregg on first. The Bulldogs then put in Courtney Seevers for a pinch runner for Gregg.

Hannah Oaks then came up and hit the ball out to center field, giving her a RBI double. Mason Curtis came up after an out and got a RBI double, making the score 6-5 Bulldogs after the top of the seventh inning.

In the bottom of the seventh the Bulldogs took the Jets out 1-2-3, winning the game for the Bulldogs in the seventh inning after trailing for five.

“We definitely had a lack of focus tonight,” Franklin Monroe coach Mike Morris said. “We beat Milton-Union early on in the season, and we just thought we could come out and do it all over again. We made a lot of bone-head plays in the game tonight. However, I will say that our girls hit well and will give them that.”
