Ansonia softball team wins for Floyd Jenkins’ 200th victory

LEWISBURG – Floyd Jenkins won his 200th game as Ansonia’s softball coach as the Tigers beat Tri-County North 10-2 on Thursday.

Ansonia scored first with two runs in the third inning. After Tri-County North cut the lead to 2-1 in the fourth, Ansonia scored six runs in the fifth to push its lead to 8-1. North added one more run in the sixth, and then Ansonia scored the game’s final two runs in the seventh.

Ansonia had nine hits and two errors in the game while Tri-County North had five hits and two errors.

Brooke Neal had two hits including a double and drove in two runs for Ansonia. Trinity Henderson also had two hits and drove in two runs.

Shelby Hartzell pitched the complete game, allowing one earned run and one unearned run while striking out 10.

With the win Ansonia improved to 4-4 overall and 1-3 in the Cross County Conference.
