Bradford’s Amanda Brewer hits 2 home runs in a win vs. Tri-Village

NEW MADISON – Powered by a pair of Amanda Brewer home runs, the Bradford softball team beat Tri-Village 10-3 in a Cross County Conference game on Tuesday.

Brewer went 3-for-4 on Tuesday with a pair of home runs and six RBIs. She also excelled in the field for the Railroaders.

“We had one player stand out, and that’s probably the best I’ve seen her play since she’s been little; that’s Amanda Brewer,” Bradford coach Shon Schaffer said. “Had two home runs. Played awesome defensively. That’s probably what stands out the most is she really shut down all their ground balls and caught a line drive. Just played really nice.”

Brewer got Bradford going early as she cranked a three-run homer in the top half of the first inning to put the Railroaders up 3-0.

Tri-Village responded with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the second to cut Bradford’s lead to a single run, 3-2. But the Railroaders then scored two runs in the third, two in the fourth and three in the sixth to pull ahead 10-2. The Patriots scored the game’s final run in the bottom of the sixth for the 10-3 final score.

“We’re improving every game,” Tri-Village coach Tracy Barhorst said. “You saw us when we played Covington. We didn’t put runs across and we’re doing it (now). We had runners on all night, and we were making plays. We’re very much an improved team.”

Along with Brewer, Olivia Hart had a big day at the plate for Bradford as she went 4-for-4 with a RBI and three runs scored.

Tori Smith had a strong pitching performance for the Railroaders as she struck out 10 and only walked one in a complete game victory.

“I asked the scorekeeper in the bottom of the seventh how many pitches she was at, and she was at 110, which was good,” Schaffer said. “That’s exactly where we want to be at this time of year, is to get up in the 100s and have her get into some tight spots, which she did, and she worked herself out of it. It was a good outing for her.”

For Tri-Village Peyton Bietry, Kloey Murphey and Shelby Holzapfel each had a pair of hits. Shelby Frech had a double for the Patriots.

“We have good hitters,” Barhorst said. “They have to believe in themselves, and that’s the key in the game right now. We’re young, and we are softball inexperienced. But they’re growing every game.”

Tri-Village will return to the field at 5 p.m. Wednesday when it travels to Franklin Monroe. The game originally was scheduled for Thursday but was moved up one day in anticipation of rain on Thursday.

Bradford will play host to Ansonia on Thursday.
