Greenville baseball team beats Brookville, loses to Carlisle

CARLISLE – The Greenville baseball team went 1-1 in Carlisle’s Sam Franks Classic on Saturday, defeating Brookville and losing to Carlisle.

Greenville won its opening round game of the invitational 8-7 against Brookville. After Greenville took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first, Brookville tied the game in the second and took a 3-2 lead in the third. Greenville regained the lead with four runs in the bottom of the third to make it 6-3.

After Brookville tied the game at 6-6 in the top of the fifth, Greenville retook the lead win a run in the bottom of the fifth. Brookville tied the game once more in the sixth, and Greenville scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh.

Both teams had eight hits in the game. Greenville committed five errors while Brookville committed one.

Logan Eldridge led Greenville as he went 2-for-2 with a double, two walks, a stolen base, two runs and three RBIs. Jason Shields was 2-for-3 with a RBI. Kyle Mills went 1-for-3 with a double, a walk, a stolen base and scored three runs. Jacob Hounshell went 1-for-2 with two walks and scored two runs.

Tanner Ross was 1-for-3. Brayden York went 1-for-4. Brandon Beyke stole a base, drove in a run and scored a run. Nathaniel Ridgeway walked once and drove in a run.

Owen Paulus pitched 6 1/3 innings, allowing three earned runs and four unearned runs on eight hits, two walks and two strikeouts. Tyler Netzley earned the win as he pitched 2/3 of an inning in relief, allowing no hits or walks.

Greenville then lost 12-2 in a six-inning run rule to Carlisle. After Greenville scored two runs in the top of the first, Carlisle scored four in the first, two in the second, one in the fourth, three in the fifth and two in the sixth.

Greenville had four hits and five errors while Carlisle had 11 hits and two errors.

Eldridge went 2-for-3 with a triple, a RBI and a run for Greenville. Mills was 1-for-2 with a walk and a run. Ross was 1-for-3 with a double and a RBI.

Netzley was charged with the loss as he pitched four innings and allowed two earned runs and five unearned runs on six hits, one walk and two strikeouts. Beyke pitched one inning, allowing two earned runs on four hits, one walk and one hit batter. Chris Force pitched a 1/3 of an inning and allowed three earned runs on one hit and two walks.
