Versailles softball team defeats Coldwater

COLDWATER – Seven runs in the second inning propelled the Versailles softball team to a 10-1 Midwest Athletic Conference victory against Coldwater on Thursday.

Versailles scored seven runs in the second inning and three in the fifth while Coldwater scored its lone run in the third inning.

Versailles had 11 hits and no errors on Thursday. Coldwater had four hits and two errors.

Sarah Gigandet went 3-for-4 with a double, a run and three RBIs for Versailles. Hailey McEldowney was 2-for-3 with two doubles, a RBI and a run. Kristin Langston was 1-for-3 with a double, a walk, a run and three RBIs. Aimee Powell went 1-for-4 with a double, a run and two RBIs.

Ashlee Voisard was 1-for-2 with a walk and a run. Cori Lawrence was 1-for-2 with a walk, a RBI and two runs. Courtney McEldowney went 1-for-3 and scored a run. Danielle Poor went 1-for-1. Kami McEldowney was hit by a pitch and scored a run, and Lauren Heitkamp scored a run.

Heitkamp pitched the complete game, allowing one run on four hits, no walks and three strikeouts.

Versailles improved to 12-6 overall and 4-1 in the MAC with the win. Coldwater fell to 5-11 overall and 2-1 in the MAC.
