Greenville baseball team defeats Springfield

GREENVILLE – The Greenville baseball team beat Springfield 8-4 on Friday.

Springfield took an early lead with two runs in the first inning and one in the second. Greenville cut its deficit to 3-1 in the bottom of the second and took a 5-3 lead in the third. The Green Wave added two runs in the fourth and one in the sixth while Springfield scored the game’s final run in the top of the seventh.

Greenville out-hit Springfield 13 to six on Friday. Both teams committed one error.

Chris Force pitched the complete game for the Wave, allowing four runs on six hits, four walks, two hit batters and four strikeouts.

Brandon Beyke went 3-for-4 with a double, a triple, two RBIs and three runs for Greenville. Kyle Mills was 2-for-2 with two walks and two runs. Tanner Ross went 2-for-4 with a RBI and two runs. Landon Eldridge went 2-for-3 with a double, a walk and a RBI.

Logan Eldridge was 2-for-4 with a run. Jason Shields was 1-for-1 with two walks and a RBI. Jacob Hounshell was 1-for-4. Grant Minnich and Brayden York both drove in a run.

Greenville improved to 9-12 with the win while Springfield fell to 8-12.
