SIDNEY – The Greenville softball team clinched a share of the Greater Western Ohio Conference North Division championship with a 15-5 win against Sidney on Tuesday.
Greenville took a 10-0 lead with three runs in the first inning and seven in the third. After Sidney scored three runs in the bottom of the third, both teams scored two runs in the fourth inning. The Lady Wave then scored two in the fifth and one in the sixth to win by a run rule.
Greenville had 11 hits and five errors in the game. Sidney had eight hits and no errors.
Ashton Kester led Greenville by going 3-for-3 with a home run, two doubles, five RBIs and two runs. Karsyn Shaffer was 3-for-4 with a triple, two RBIs and three runs. Allison Minnich went 1-for-3 with a double, a walk and two RBIs. Cassie Cromwell was 1-for-2 with a double, a walk and three runs.
Jazzlyn Petry was 1-for-2 with two walks, a RBI and a run. Makayla Hanes went 1-for-4 with a RBI and a run. Alli Hill was 1-for-5. Sydney Grote walked twice and scored two runs. Madelyn Breig, Alexis Byers and Lani Shilt each scored a run.
Minnich pitched the complete game for the Lady Wave, allowing two earned runs and three unearned runs on eight hits, two walks and two strikeouts.
Greenville improved to 16-5 overall and 8-2 in the GWOC North with the win while Sidney fell to 9-11 overall and 3-7 in the GWOC North. Greenville finished in a three-way tie with Piqua and Troy for the GWOC North championship.
