BRADFORD – The Bradford softball team celebrated senior night on Tuesday with a 13-3 victory against Miami East for seniors Tori Smith, Lindsey Haines and Ciara Yohey.

Miami East scored all three of its runs in the top half of the first inning.

Leadoff batter Jenna Patton singled to second, and Megan Pettit followed by hitting a grounder just past the short stop for a single. Samantha Urban bunted the ball between the pitcher and third base for a single to load the bases.

The cleanup batter came up hit just past the pitcher for a RBI single, scoring Patton. Alyssa Francis then hit a sacrifice grounder, scoring Pettit and Urban to make it 3-0.

Bradford started off the bottom of the first with leadoff hitter Olivia Hart drawing a walk, and Amanda Brewer bunted for a single. After a strikeout, Bailey Wysong walked, and Hart and Brewer score runs to cut Miami East’s lead to 3-2.

In the second inning Miami East’s Pettit doubled but was stranded in scoring position.

In the bottom half of the inning Bradford’s Hannah Fout got a one-out hit and then stole second and third. A batter later Hart was walked again and then she stole second. Brewer then hit a three-run home run, giving Bradford a 5-3 lead.

Wysong led off the bottom of the third with a single and then stole second. Rosengarten hit to center field for a RBI single. Gill then singled, and a couple of batters later with two outs Haines hit just past second base for a RBI single. Hart hit to left field to get on base, and Brewer hit a RBI single to left field as the inning ending with Bradford leading 10-3.

In the bottom of the fourth Rosengarten doubled into center field and stole third. Moments later she stole home to make it 11-3.

After a scoreless fifth inning, Smith led off the bottom of the fifth with a single to third. After singles by Rosengarten and Gill, Yohey drove a game-ending hit into right field to end the game with a 13-3 run rule victory for Bradford.

“We had a great game that went very well,” Bradford coach Shon Shaffer said. “We hit well and had a clean defense after the first inning of mishappens. We played great and scored enough.”

Bradford’s seniors reminisced about favorite stories including Smith getting a speeding ticket on her way to Bradford’s season-opening softball game, and Haines backed into Shaffer’s car.
