Arcanum baseball team beats Tri-County North to claim the CCC championship

LEWISBURG – Behind the strong pitching of senior Conner Pohl and an offense that saw every hitter either have a hit or score or run, Arcanum captured the Cross County Conference baseball championship with a 9-3 victory over Tri-County North Thursday afternoon.

Pohl struck out 12 Panthers while walking only three in his complete game performance.

The offense jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first inning. This energized the Trojans, and even though TCN managed to cut the lead in half after four innings, Arcanum struck back with a three spot in the fifth on four consecutive hits to open the inning with the first three scoring. This made the score 5-1.

The Panthers closed the gap to 5-2 by adding a run in the sixth, but Arcanum answered back yet again. The Trojans broke the game open by plating four runs in the seventh all after two were out.

There was no one key hit by a player, but there were contributions from all. Cole Burrell had a hit and two RBIs. Jordan Dubbs, Pohl, Austin Baker, Brandon Kinney, Wade Meeks and Hayden Westfall all had two hits. Hunter Saunders had three hits.

“We hit the ball really well today,” Arcanum coach Randy Baker said. “The bottom of the lineup did a really nice job.

“They (Tri-County North) have really good hitters. Give them credit. They’re legit.”

Arcanum, 11-0 in conference play, has one remaining CCC game with arch-rival Franklin Monroe. Only one other team in Trojan history has won the league with an unblemished record, and that’s what the Trojans will attempt to do at home Friday afternoon.
